Welcome To Venturing Crew 177

What is Venturing?

Venturing is the young adult program of the Boy Scouts of America for men and women 14 (who have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Local community organizations such as professional organizations, churches, and civic groups initiate specific Venturing Crews. They do this by matching the interest of young adults with the people and program resources within their own organizations. In our case, Shooters Pistol Range, is a well established retail facility who sponsors Crew 177.

Scatacook District, Connecticut Yankee Council brings to you an exciting program and opportunity to join a Shooting Team. We designed programs around .22 cal. Smallbore Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun. Focusing on the safety and the knowledge in the operation of the handling of firearms. Our program, range facilities, and advisers comply with all standards established by the NRA and the BSA. All of our advisers are certified NRA instructors with years of experience.

Our programs consist of NRA Smallbore Rifle 3-Position which develops rifle skills in the prone, kneeling and standing positions for accuracy, dexterity and precision. The NRA Handgun Qualification course provides the skills needed to participate in NRA pistol competitions. NRA Shotgun Qualification in Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays gives our Ventures an outdoor shooting experience on a variety of moving targets.   

Range safety is mandatory once a participant enters the range area. The Range Safety Officer will request complete attention to his commands at all times. Your interest and personal attention to the program will eventually lead you and your members to a higher level of competitive activity which best describes Venturing.
